Welcome to MelsGoal

Important Note:

Opinions are fun. My friends tell me I am someone with lots of opinions and that's fine since I don't get mad at others when they disagree with me. In this same spirit I am interested in hearing yours views as long as you are able to share your views without boiling over. I look forward to hearing from you. I tend to write in the form of short essays most of the time, but contributions do not need to be in this same format or size. Some of the content here will date itself pretty quickly, other content may be virtually timeless, this is for the reader to judge.

Cars that flopped

Posted at: Feb/10/2014 : Posted by: mel

Related Category: Perspectives,

Cars matter a lot to most of us. While we publically justify our automotive purchases based on practicality, cost and efficiency, we often have other motives. Unlike a washing machine or vacuum, we are seen publically in our cars. For most of us, style and general appearance mean a great deal, if it didn’t we would all venture to the grocery store in our pajamas with disregard for any personal .....read more…

The misguided intent of Obamacare

Posted at: Dec/05/2013 : Posted by: mel

Related Category: Healthcare, People, Perspectives, Society, Watching America,

In case you have not noticed, healthcare has been a dominant theme in our news for most of the past three years (2011-2013). President Obama’s signature legislation of 2010, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), (aka, Obamacare) has dominated the national debate and domestic agenda. I am concerned that leveraging the web for ACA registration actually makes it inaccessible for many Americans who do not .....read more…

One of the bedrocks of our governmental institutions and infrastructure is federalism. This is the constitutional recognition of the legal origins of the United States as a union of independent states. America started, of course with 13 colonies, which evolved to become 13 states. With the passage of time and expansion of our geographic footprint America has gradually added 37 additional states. .....read more…

We’ve all played games. Games have winners, losers and various types of outcomes. Some games are easy to manage and some are about understanding and predicting what your opponent is likely to do. Hypocrisy runs amuck

Have your looked up the definition for hypocrisy recently, there are two standard definitions. 1, “a pretense of having a virtuous character, moral or religious belief or principles that one does not really possess.” 2, “a pretense of having some desirable or publicly approved attitude.” (Reference: dictionary.com). The common word in both definitions was “pretense.” Despite being proud of my co.....read more…

Why some movements work and others wilt

Posted at: Sep/30/2013 : Posted by: mel

Related Category: Education, People, Perspectives,

Creating change is never easy. Change is also one of the great contradictions of humanity. As individuals we thrive on stability; knowing that what worked yesterday will work well again today and tomorrow. Despite this individual lust for stability, as a mass we continually push for things to be different. On the largest scale the changes we seek are often considered movements or revolutions. .....read more…

My how cars have changed

Cars are one of the hot beds for continuous change. Teams of designers are endlessly destroying brain cells in an attempt to find the right blend of new styling and innovative features to capture your purchasing dollar. The push button electric transmission on the 1957-58 Dodge, DeSoto and Plymouths never quite caught on. The outrageous tail fins of the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado have become iconi.....read more…

It’s April and the start of another baseball season. As with any new baseball season we are inundated with the predictions by experts; who’ll win the divisions, the pennants and ultimately the World Series?
