Important Note:
Opinions are fun. My friends tell me I am someone with lots of opinions and that's fine since I don't get mad at others when they disagree with me. In this same spirit I am interested in hearing yours views as long as you are able to share your views without boiling over. I look forward to hearing from you. I tend to write in the form of short essays most of the time, but contributions do not need to be in this same format or size. Some of the content here will date itself pretty quickly, other content may be virtually timeless, this is for the reader to judge.

Octuplet mom Nadya Suleman offends my common sense

Related Category: Common Sense,
I know, there is no law against having babies, but this is different. The lady has no real income and has been for quite a while living off the resources of the State of California. Hey, the State of California doesn’t have any resources left. But wait: this is not too much unprotected fun in a back seat leading to a few too many kids. This lady is paying a fertility doctor to get here pregnant! Just in the short run the hospital bills to the state are going to approach, and may exceed $1 million. I am not a psychologist, but I expect there is some kind of obsessive behavior going on here. When is the doctor supposed to take on some responsibility with respect to his patient, or are ethics optional for doctors now. I for one don’t like the idea that my limited tax dollars are helping pay for 8 new babies when she was already in a mode of not being able to afford the first 6 she already had. The bills for this family have only begun and a lot of us will be feeding and housing them for years. Have we thrown away common sense?

I agree with your comment. This person needs to have her head examined!

Here's a couple of things that get overlooked. I think there should be a conversation about the whole fertility industry. People don't realize that doctors pump young women full of drugs to produce as many eggs as possible. This woman justified using all 6 eggs (4 of the babies were 2 sets of identical twins, so 6 eggs) because they were left over from her first fertility treatment (some of those 6 were also identical twins), and she didn't want to either destroy them or let someone else use them. Maybe the fertility treatments have gotten successful enough that you don't need to drug women to produce as many eggs as you did when there were so many failures. Also I doubt she paid for the treatment. The state has insisted that all medical insurance must pay for fertility treatments, so this is what you get. Bottom line, if you subsidize something, you get more of it, and if you pay for something for someone else, soon you want to control how they spend it. That's just human nature, and that's why any government subsidy means government control.
