Welcome to MelsGoal

Important Note:

Opinions are fun. My friends tell me I am someone with lots of opinions and that's fine since I don't get mad at others when they disagree with me. In this same spirit I am interested in hearing yours views as long as you are able to share your views without boiling over. I look forward to hearing from you. I tend to write in the form of short essays most of the time, but contributions do not need to be in this same format or size. Some of the content here will date itself pretty quickly, other content may be virtually timeless, this is for the reader to judge.

From the beginning of America’s colonial history its people have exemplified a concept called “Exceptionalism.” Exceptionalism is conventionally the basis for producing risk-takers, warriors, leaders and innovators. American Exceptionalism includes the belief that our nation holds a unique responsibility and destiny in the global society. Following the example of the post-revolutionary American d.....read more…

The Office Apocalypse

Related Category: People, Society, Watching America,

It’s interesting how things change. Before the pandemic, roughly 95% of all big city offices were occupied according to the National Chamber of Commerce. Today (December 2022) that number is closer to 47% (Bloomberg News). Employees and employers are not returning to their previous downtown offices. This downtown exodus has had a domino effect, less foot traffic, less public-transit use, the shut.....read more…

The new California energy solution

Have you heard, California is about to vote on legislation to restrict the sale of gas-powered cars and ban them altogether after 2035. This is clearly a noble cause, and just as clearly has not been thought through very well. With so many contradictions to existing energy and environmental policy it will be interesting to see how this plays out over time. In truth, the Governor had announced .....read more…

What are we really teaching our kids?

The one thing that is guaranteed when you use race as a means to power or change is short term absurdity. The optics of race is currently one of the most popular cards to play when pursuing power. The absurdity arises when the simple facts that many people see plainly are ignored. I know, the “truth is supposed to ultimately come out”, but like so many things…the truth will appears as a retract.....read more…

Unless you have been living in a cave for all of 2020 and into 2021 you have heard of this highly contagious virus designated COVID-19. As a worldwide pandemic, COVID-19 has shut down economy’s, changed how we live our lives, and killed far too many. The good news is that we have a fully approved vaccine. Time to rethink tradition

Related Category: Politics & Gov, Watching America,

It has been 8 months since the 2020 elections and the entire process of elections is still in the news. There is talk that the election was stolen, and others who worry about the opportunity for fraud. On the other side of the table is a valid concern that elections be accessible and not disenfranchise any distinct group of voters. These are all important questions since our democracy is depende.....read more…

In case you missed it, President Biden just finished his first 100 days in the oval office. This milestone is normally scrutinized by the press and pundits. Agenda is analyzed along with executive orders and public appearances. For most of the last 30 years new Presidents have used this window to promote their agenda and begin securing their legacy. I know that when I was in my teens and early twenties I thought many older adults were totally out of touch with reality. The things that seemed to matter to that generation just didn’t strike a nerve with me. I can remember someone coming into a diner with a sleeveless shirt on and sandals, my father could no longer focus on our conversation and finally insisted that we leave our meals half eate.....read more…

Politically correct math

It’s 2021 and the era of deflecting blame. When something is not going well we blame government intervention, or the lack of government protections, or a host of other groups and entities. If there is disparity in outcome, it must be discrimination and racism. Apparently this mindset has now been applied as a rationalization for success and failure at math education. This is exemplified by the .....read more…

I am an individual with a lot of opinions, I know this to be true because I get told it so many times I have almost become deaf to the comment. I used to think that being opinionated was a privilege of being old, but clearly in our current society that is not reserved to folks my generation. Nevertheless, if there was every an opportunity to share a few unwanted and unsolicited opinions, the pol.....read more…
