Welcome to MelsGoal

Important Note:

Opinions are fun. My friends tell me I am someone with lots of opinions and that's fine since I don't get mad at others when they disagree with me. In this same spirit I am interested in hearing yours views as long as you are able to share your views without boiling over. I look forward to hearing from you. I tend to write in the form of short essays most of the time, but contributions do not need to be in this same format or size. Some of the content here will date itself pretty quickly, other content may be virtually timeless, this is for the reader to judge.

Did you ever see the movie “Revenge of the Nerds”, 1984? The appeal of the movie is that the “beautiful people”, the Jocks and Cheerleaders at the fictional college have set themselves up as an elite group. The charm in the story arc is the eventual realization that not just “Nerds”, but nearly everyone has been preyed upon by the beautiful people leading to a campus revolution led by the nerds......read more…

It’s 2024 and if you haven’t been following the news this election year, there is a twist to how the political game is being played. We have seen debates, naming calling, disparaging remarks on family, and twisted rewriting of history, but the latest game is called “Lawfare.” Lawfare is the use of the legal system and its institutions to damage, delegitimize, or hinder a political opponent. Asked to define the word “woman” during her Supreme Court confirmation hearing in 2022, Judge Ketanji Jackson avoided a direct answer by saying “I’m not a biologist.” I am not a biologist either, but I think I can help with this question. To that end, let me rephrase the question to Judge Jackson: are sex categories in humans of "male and female" real, immutable, and binary, or are they merely “so.....read more…

Despite all the home-grown complainers, America is still considered the “Land of Opportunity.” With our freedoms and the chance for prosperity, the U.S. is the most sought-after immigration target on the globe. Nearly every other democracy is either patterned after or inspired by America. The power of words and ideas, along with the opportunity to freely express them is a key element to what has .....read more…

Social Justice is a Farce!

For the last 15 years we have been bombarded with the words of the social justice crowd. Cancel Columbus Day because of the displaced Native American population, feel guilty for blacks because they are socially forced to commit crime, adopt a Trans person because they are shunned from full society participation, women are preyed upon by men (#MeToo) before they can have equal opportunity. This i.....read more…

Okay, I would like to be very contemporary with my social consciousness, but I think I have reached my limit. If you want to call me homophobic, racist, transphobic, go ahead. I don’t personally believe I am any of those, but I have had enough with the notion of wokeness. While I would like to believe I am special, in truth I know I am not anything more than a member of the “Silent Majority.” B.....read more…

The Office Apocalypse

It’s interesting how things change. Before the pandemic, roughly 95% of all big city offices were occupied according to the National Chamber of Commerce. Today (December 2022) that number is closer to 47% (Bloomberg News). Employees and employers are not returning to their previous downtown offices. This downtown exodus has had a domino effect, less foot traffic, less public-transit use, the shut.....read more…

Have you heard, California is about to vote on legislation to restrict the sale of gas-powered cars and ban them altogether after 2035. This is clearly a noble cause, and just as clearly has not been thought through very well. With so many contradictions to existing energy and environmental policy it will be interesting to see how this plays out over time. In truth, the Governor had announced .....read more…
