Welcome to MelsGoal

Important Note:

Opinions are fun. My friends tell me I am someone with lots of opinions and that's fine since I don't get mad at others when they disagree with me. In this same spirit I am interested in hearing yours views as long as you are able to share your views without boiling over. I look forward to hearing from you. I tend to write in the form of short essays most of the time, but contributions do not need to be in this same format or size. Some of the content here will date itself pretty quickly, other content may be virtually timeless, this is for the reader to judge.

It is the summer of 2012 and things are not going well in the Middle East. There have been attacks and large scale protest on American embassies and consulates in Pakistan, Egypt, Yemen and Libya. At the center of all this violence is a YouTube video titled “Innocence of Muslims.” It is unfortunate, but most of the world does not understand why we tolerate, and even periodically defend such tras.....read more…

Why are lists fascinating?

Have you ever wondered why we are so fascinated by lists of things? We love those lists that countdown to “number one.” David Letterman has his daily list of top ten something’s. Television’s Animal Planet always does well with its list based programs; ten weirdest animals, ten most unique insect relationships, etc. Time magazine list of “The world’s Top 100 Most Influential People” is always a.....read more…

When my oldest son was still in those single digit years we enrolled him in a performing arts school. I remember attending one of his schools performance recitals where my son had to do a jazz dance routine before all the other students and their parents. I still recall that for being a performing arts school, almost everyone was pretty bad at what they did in their performances. It was entert.....read more…

I have too much stuff

I have too much stuff, I feel kind of embarrassed even saying it. I sure put a lot of energy into accumulating the stuff I have. I would suspect that most people in America do as well. This could be some natural transition from starting out in life with little or nothing at all. Our modern trend toward accumulating stuff may also be just the result of really good marketing and manipulation. Un.....read more…

A case study in how not to run a Galactic Empire, or your team for that matter By Alex Knapp My colleague Dorothy Pomerantz notes that this weekend, the re-issued 3-D version of "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, "pulled down about $23 million at the box office over the weekend. This got my mind to pondering the mistakes that people make, ranging from making the "Star Wars" prequels to reissuin.....read more…

The Voice of Steve Jobs

Posted at: Oct/08/2011 : Posted by: mel

Related Category: People, Perspectives,

For anyone who does not pay attention to the news, Steve Jobs passed away recently after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer. I never personally met the man, but I feel the loss. There is that twinge you feel when someone very near your own age passes, or maybe it is because of his iconic presence in an industry that is so much a part of all of our lives. Others who have met the man will w.....read more…
