Welcome to MelsGoal

Important Note:

Opinions are fun. My friends tell me I am someone with lots of opinions and that's fine since I don't get mad at others when they disagree with me. In this same spirit I am interested in hearing yours views as long as you are able to share your views without boiling over. I look forward to hearing from you. I tend to write in the form of short essays most of the time, but contributions do not need to be in this same format or size. Some of the content here will date itself pretty quickly, other content may be virtually timeless, this is for the reader to judge.

The other day I was channel surfing during one of my nights when sleep was eluding me. I eventually let the remote control rest and I settled on watching the movie Starship Troopers. The 1997 movie was directed by Paul Verhoeven with screen play by Edward Neumeier and follows the futuristic military career and personal growth of the main character Johnny Rico while earth is at war with a race of.....read more…

There are lots of ways to find entertainment through your day. Television is a good start, but you will eventually run out of content and start binge watching programs from 20 years ago to sustain this input form. Another possible form of entertainment is the programs sharing videos of people either being caught in a bad situation, or just being incredibly stupid. This path could easily lead to.....read more…

Just following the herd

Politicians have a long and enduring history of making themselves appear foolish. Some of this is the result of poor coaching and some from inflated egos encouraging a nasty illness sometimes called “diarrhea of the mouth”. The September 2015 Republican Presidential Debate held in Simi Valley California was another of those special situations. 23 million viewers had their evening enriched with m.....read more…

There is nothing like a creative news story or event to pique my interest. With our 24/7 news cycle, there is always the potential to find something that questions what we thought was normal. Some of these events are about important social questions; some are a manifestation of holes in current law. Some of these unique events are the unintended consequence of change or misguided legislation. O.....read more…

Being a Preppie isn’t getting it done

Americans love their brands. When buying cars, the established brands always dominate in sales over new entrants regardless of the price differential. In the grocery store, the name brand ketchup will out sell the less expensive store brand with great consistency. In a similar manner Americans consider Harvard, Yale and Princeton as the go to place to find our “best and brightest.” Yet our shi.....read more…

One of the fascinating things with the internet is the wealth interesting thing you can read about. There are a number of news sites that provide instant access to global events. The misguided intent of Obamacare

Related Category: Healthcare, People, Perspectives, Society, Watching America,

In case you have not noticed, healthcare has been a dominant theme in our news for most of the past three years (2011-2013). President Obama’s signature legislation of 2010, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), (aka, Obamacare) has dominated the national debate and domestic agenda. I am concerned that leveraging the web for ACA registration actually makes it inaccessible for many Americans who do not .....read more…

Why some movements work and others wilt

Creating change is never easy. Change is also one of the great contradictions of humanity. As individuals we thrive on stability; knowing that what worked yesterday will work well again today and tomorrow. Despite this individual lust for stability, as a mass we continually push for things to be different. On the largest scale the changes we seek are often considered movements or revolutions. .....read more…

For those who know me, you know that I am not big on “when I was a boy” stories. Life is an ever-changing whirlpool of challenges. I make an effort to not wax on with “back in the day” stories as well. Many people would like to tell you things were better, or simpler, or water was sweeter, or some such thing when talking about the past. My own experience is that our world is continuously evolv.....read more…
